Overview of the Projects

The program encompasses two categories of PhD positions:

1. Excellence PhD Positions

Four positions are offered under this category, providing candidates with the freedom to select any Nano research group at Chalmers for their projects. This flexibility allows candidates to tailor their research trajectory and align it with their personal academic interests.


2. Specific Research Topic Positions

Sixteen positions focus on specific research topics, ranging from advanced lipid-based cellular membrane mimicry to the development of next-generation nanomaterials for hydrogen sensors, and from quantum computing to terahertz electronics for life sciences.


Selected candidates will work alongside leading researchers, contributing to innovative projects that advance understanding and applications in nanotechnology.

Eligibility and Requirements

  1. Master’s degree (or equivalent) in a relevant field.

  2. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.

  3. Candidates must submit a two-page reflection letter detailing their motivation for pursuing a PhD at Chalmers, their research interests, and their qualifications.

  4. Final master’s exam must occur after June 1, 2024.

  5. Not already enrolled in a PhD program.

  1. Curriculum Vitae (CV): Include academic qualifications, professional experiences, and references.

  2. Reflection Letter: Two pages outlining your background, research interests, and motivation for pursuing a PhD at Chalmers.

  3. Academic Documents: Copies of your Bachelor’s and Master’s theses, as well as attested transcripts and certificates.

  4. References: Contact details of two referees.

Interviews for shortlisted candidates will take place on April 29, 2025. Successful candidates must commence their PhD studies before the end of 2025.
