If you are an early-career scientist or a policymaker passionate about bridging science and diplomacy, the AAAS-TWAS Summer Course on Science Diplomacy offers an excellent opportunity to advance your skills. Held in Trieste, Italy, from 21 to 24 July 2025, this in-person course brings together scientists and decision-makers from around the globe to explore the intersection of science, technology, and international policy.

Programme Overview
The AAAS-TWAS Science Diplomacy training program, established in 2014, has trained over 300 emerging leaders from more than 50 countries.
Participants will work in pairs (scientist and policymaker) to strengthen science-policy connections and explore real-world solutions to global challenges.
The course aims to:
Introduce participants to science diplomacy concepts.
Address key international policy issues in science, technology, environment, and health.
Build skills for careers at the nexus of science and diplomacy.
✨ Course Structure and Events
21 July 2025: Welcome dinner and participant introductions.
22–24 July 2025: Interactive workshops, lectures, and networking opportunities led by international experts.
25 July 2025: Departure of participants to their home countries.
What is Covered?
The program offers a fully funded experience, including:
Round-trip transportation.
Accommodation in Trieste, Italy.
Visa application fees.
Daily meals and incidentals.
Additionally, selected participants join a global alumni network of science diplomacy leaders.
Eligibility Criteria
To apply, participants must form a participant pair:
1. Early-Career Scientist (ECS):
Must hold a PhD degree.
Preferably aged 40 or below.
Involved in research with international policymaking implications.
2. Decisionmaker (DM):
No PhD or age limit required.
Should be a policymaker, government official, diplomat, civil servant, or member of a funding/research institution.
✨ Priority Considerations
Applicants from developing countries, especially STLCs and Least Developed Countries (LDCs).
Women, refugee scientists, and underrepresented groups are strongly encouraged to apply.
Application Procedure
1. Online Submission: Applications must be submitted via the TWAS web application portal.
2. Single Application Form: Completed by the ECS for both participants. Includes required documentation:
CVs (max 3 pages) for both applicants.
Passport copies.
Reference letters and a signed supporting statement (for ECS).
Decisionmaker consent form (Download).
4. Submission Deadline: 23 January 2025
