2025 ADB-JSP Scholarship - The Asian Development Bank-Japan Master's Scholarship Programme

Applications are now open for the Asian Development Bank-Japan Scholarship Programme (ADB-JSP).


(ADB-JSP) aims to provide an opportunity for well-qualified citizens of ADB’s developing member countries to undertake graduate studies in economics, management, science and technology, and other development-related fields at participating academic institutions in the Asian and Pacific Region.

The ADB–Japan Scholarship Program (ADB–JSP) enrolls about 250 students annually in academic institutions located in 9 countries within the Region. Upon completion of their study programs, scholars are expected to contribute to the economic and social development of their home countries.

 

ADB-JSP Scholarship Coverage

The ADB-JSP covers the following:


  1. Full tuition fees

  2. Monthly subsistence allowance (including housing)

  3. Books and instructional materials

  4. Medical insurance

  5. Travel expenses

  6. In special circumstances, computer literacy, preparatory language and other similar courses may be covered under the scholarship.

Interested and eligible students can apply to the scholarship to undertake their study programs of choice at one of the 29 Partner Institutions across Asia and the Pacific in 9 countries within the Region.

Eligiblity Criteria

  • Be a national of an ADB borrowing member country, see list of eligible countries here

  • Gained admission to an approved course in any of the 29 institutions.

  • At least 2 years of full-time professional working experience (acquired after University degree).

  • Not be more than 35 years old at the time of application, unless waived in exceptional cases with the expressed endorsement of the Government of Japan.

  • Be in good health

  • Should agree to return and work in his/her home country for at least two (2) years after completion of studies under the Program in order to contribute to its development.

  • Not already enrolled in a graduate program

  • Not be staff of ADB–JSP Designated Institutions

  • Not be living or working in a country other than his/her home country

 

General Application procedure


1. Applicant requests for information and application forms from the chosen partner institution


2. Applicant completes required documents for application including ADB-JSP information sheet


3. Applicant sends documents to institution


4. Institution evaluates and decides on admission and applicant


5. Institution sends shortlist of candidates to ADB


6. ADB reviews submission from institutions


7. ADB recommends awardees based on its selection criteria to the Japanese executive director for approval


8. ADB selects scholars and informs institution


9. Institution informs all scholars
