The program reflects the Foundation’s nearly seven-decade tradition of investing in the region’s most promising future leaders. Program Description and theme
The 2025 Asia Foundation Development Fellows Program will be dedicated to Climate Action in response to the escalating global climate crisis. Candidates must have a career or vocation in climate change mitigation and a strong commitment to a sustainable, resilient future. The program aims to foster leadership skills in a diverse cohort. Fellows can come from various fields, including environmental sciences, sustainability, climate conservation, community activism, environmental policy and law, journalism, conflict resolution, women's rights, or any other field intersecting with climate issues. All professional backgrounds are welcome, provided the candidate's work intersects with climate action.
Program Benefits
Being an Asia Foundation Development Fellow offers several benefits:
1). Leadership Training Program and Study Tour The program includes a series of highly interactive leadership training modules with executive coaches, site visits with leading development practitioners, policy leaders, and local innovators. Training modules focus on strategic thinking and decision-making, problem-solving skills, managing change, and innovative approaches in leadership and management.
2). Professional Development Award
Fellows receive a flexible professional development award of US $5,000 for use throughout the Fellowship year.
3). Mentorship and Coaching
Fellows are matched with mentors tailored to their background and professional interests and have access to a fixed number of one-on-one executive coaching sessions with a professional leadership coach
4). Networking
The program provides an opportunity to enhance professional networks and international exposure.
5). Knowledge Enhancement
Fellows gain in-depth knowledge of Asia critical development challenges
6). Travel and Accommodation
The stipend covers travel, accommodations, and other program-related expenses.
Program Schedule and timeline
The 2025 Asia Foundation Development Fellows Program has the following schedule:
• Application period: June 10 to July 29, 2024
• Internal review: August to November 2024
• Final selection and announcement: November to December 2024
• Leadership Training Program and Study Tour
This will take place in Nepal from February 17 to 28, 2025.
• Leadership Dialogue and Exchange Program This will be held in the United States from Oct. 6 to 17, 2025.

Eligibility
Candidates should be thoughtful, committed, respected, and inspirational leaders in their professional fields and community.
Candidates must be under 40 years of age by January 1, 2025.
Candidates should be conversant in English. TOEFL exam results are not required
Candidates should be able to secure a visa for travel to the United States.
Candidates must be available and able to participate in all components on the program dates specified.
Candidates should demonstrate a career background or vocation focused on addressing climate change and a proven commitment to working toward achieving a resilient, sustainable future.
No professional background is ineligible if a candidate can demonstrate how their work intersects with climate action.
