2025 Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree DENSYS 2.0 | Decentralised Smart Energy Systems

Applications for the Erasmus Mundus joint master’s degree DENSYS 2.0 are open

The Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree DENSYS 2.0 is a collaborative two-year (120 ECTS) program designed to provide advanced training in the interdisciplinary fields of Decentralized Smart Energy Systems (DENSYS). This program aims to educate top-skilled engineers and future researchers who can design, size, optimize, and operate decentralized smart energy systems, contributing to the transition towards a low-carbon society.

DENSYS 2.0 Features

DENSYS 2.0 focuses on the integration of renewable energy sources into the global energy system, emphasizing the role of decentralized smart energy systems in urban and rural areas. The program is designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge needed to address the complex interactions in energy systems, promoting sustainable development and energy efficiency.

A "T-shaped" training profile is implemented, the vertical bar being the deep core speciality of multiphysics engineering, as the horizontal bar represents the mind-opening disciplines that will be taught via a large spectrum of breadth courses (mandatory or elective).

Students are actors of the architecture of their education and thus their skill profiles: they can choose a challenge topic, elective modules, and their 3rd-semester specialization track.

DENSYS 2.0 host institutions

  1. Université de Lorraine - Nancy, France

  2. Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) -Stockholm, Sweden)

  3. Politecnico di Torino (PoliTo) - Italy

  4. Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) - Barcelona, Spain

Programme Structure, Curriculum, and Tracks

The Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree DENSYS 2.0 includes an integrated mobility scheme designed to provide students with a comprehensive international experience. Here are the details:

Year 1: Université de Lorraine (UL), Nancy, France

Students will focus on mastering the physical principles and governing parameters of renewable energy sources, energy storage technologies, and conversion systems between energy carriers.

Year 2: Mobility Options

Students have the opportunity to specialize at one of the following tracks at partner universities:

  1. Royal Institute of Technology (KTH): Decentralized energy systems in a global energy system

  2. Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC): Thermal Energy Engineering

  3. Politecnico di Torino (PoliTo): Energy-to-X innovative pathways for energy storage

Additional Mobility Opportunities:

1. University of Liège, Belgium

A one-week immersive session in the Topic of digitalization and artificial intelligence applied to energy network management.

2. ESADE Business School, Spain

Organizes a summer school on business and entrepreneurship in energy. During the summer schools, students will have the opportunity to meet industrial and societal actors.
