The Erasmus Mundus Joint Master's program in Smart Cities and Communities (SMACCs) is a unique two-year, 120 ECTS program designed to educate the next generation of engineers, architects, and researchers in the field of smart cities and communities. The program is a collaboration between four prestigious European universities: University of the Basque Country (Spain), University of Vaasa (Finland), International Hellenic University (Greece), and Université de Mons (Belgium)
SMACCs offers specializations in areas such as Smart Grids and Demand Management, Sustainable Urban Planning, Energy and Transport, Information and Communication Technologies, and Energy Efficiency. Eligiblity Criteria
To be eligible for the Erasmus Mundus Master's program in Smart Cities and Communities (SMACCs), you need to meet the following criteria:
1. Educational Background: A bachelor's degree in engineering (mechanical, chemical, electrical, civil, environmental, architectural, etc.) or in sciences (physics, chemistry, mathematics, computer science, operations) or in economics with an engineering background. Other degrees (e.g., architecture, law, business, social sciences) will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
2. Academic Excellence: A strong academic record, typically a high GPA, and/or relevant research experience.
3. Language Proficiency: Proficiency in English, as the program is conducted in English. If your previous studies were in English, an official letter from your university confirming this can be used as proof; see details here.
4. International Experience:
While not mandatory, having international experience or a willingness to study in multiple countries can be advantageous.
5. Application Deadline: Bachelor's degree must be awarded before September 15 of the academic year the program starts.
Application Procedure & Documents
In order to apply for the SMACCs programme, the candidates must fill in and upload the online application form, as well as the requested annexes, via the online application platform (The application window will soon open for this program).
The following is a list of the documents that you need to submit electronically:

Reference Letters
In your application form, you will be asked to name two referees of your choice (at least one referree must be from academia). Applicants must contact the reference persons prior to mentioning their contact details in the application form and make sure that their referees will provide a reference letter as part of their application. It is the responsibility of the applicant sto contact directly the two referees that they have to submit the reference letters directly to the email address (applications@smaccs.eu) by no later than 15 days after the application deadline that corresponds to their case.
