Summer Google Public Policy Fellowship Overview

The Google Public Policy Fellowship program is designed to immerse students in the world of internet and technology policy. Fellows will be placed at prominent public interest organizations in Washington, D.C. (See a list of host organizations here), where they will engage in various activities, including:

  • Conducting policy research and analysis

  • Drafting reports and white papers

  • Attending government and industry meetings and conferences

  • Participating in advocacy activities


This hands-on experience allows fellows to contribute to public discourse on tech policy issues while exploring future academic and professional interests.

 

Fellowship Benefits

1. Stipend: Competitive financial support based on commitment:

  • Full-time (40 hours/week): $12,000

  • Part-time (20 hours/week): $6,000


2. Professional Development: Opportunities to network with experts in the field, attend relevant events, and gain practical experience in tech policy.


3. Flexible Work Arrangements: Host organizations will determine if fellows must work in-person or remotely, accommodating various preferences and circumstances.

 

Eligibility Criteria

  1. Be at least 18 years old by January 1, 2025

  2. Be enrolled in or accepted into an accredited institution (colleges, universities, master's programs, PhD programs, and undergraduate programs)

  3. Be eligible and authorized to work in the country of their fellowship placement (Google does not assist with work authorization)

  4. Not have previously participated as a Google Policy Fellow

  5. Ideal candidates are those with a demonstrated interest in internet and technology policy, excellent analytical, research, writing, and communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.

 

Application Procedure

The application for summer Google Public Policy Fellowship is submitted online by filling this online application form. The application process consists of seven key sections:

Additional Information:

  • Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis by host organizations. Some organizations may fill positions before the deadline, so early applications are encouraged.

  • References are required for application submission, but no letters of recommendation are needed.

  • Applicants may apply to up to two host organizations.

  • No confirmation email is sent upon application submission; host organizations will reach out directly to candidates.
