Programme Overview

The African Gender Equality Research Group is a four-year research initiative that aims to examine African philosophies and cultural traditions regarding gender norms, values, and ethics. The programme fosters scholarly collaboration, knowledge exchange, and the development of intellectual resources for advancing gender equality across the continent. Selected scholars will engage in research, advocacy, and conferences, contributing to IGVI’s annual conference and the Journal of Global Value Inquiry.


Thematic Areas of Focus

  • African Indigenous philosophies and ethics on gender norms and values

  • Indigenous knowledge systems underpinning gender equality and women’s empowerment

  • Epistemic freedoms, injustices, and feminist methodologies in African philosophies

  • Decolonial African feminist epistemologies and research

  • The intersection of local African values with global ethics and policies

 

Programme Benefits

  • Monthly stipend of 800 Euros for the duration of four years

Eligibility Criteria

  1. Applicants must be based in Africa and affiliated with an African university

  2. Must hold a PhD or doctorate in philosophy or a related discipline in the humanities

  3. Must specialize in gender equality research, feminist philosophies, decoloniality, and related epistemologies

  • Curriculum Vitae (max. six pages)

  • List of publications

  • Three to five research documents on values and norms (max. five article-length works and two book-length works)

  • Summary of expertise in gender equality research (max. six pages)

  • Research proposal covering one or more of the thematic areas (max. two pages)
