If you are a student passionate about mathematics, artificial intelligence, and machine learning, applications are now open for the AI for Science Master’s program at AIMS South Africa for the 2025-2026 Academic year intake. This fully residential one-year taught master's program with a research component is made possible through a partnership with Google DeepMind AI Master's Scholarships Initiative. AI for Science Master’s Scholarship at AIMS Elligibility Criteria

  1. Residency in Africa at the time of application

  2. Citizenship of any African country

  3. Completion of a four-year undergraduate degree or a three-year undergraduate degree with an honours year by August 2025 (or December 2025 for southern African applicants)

  4. Undergraduate degree in physics, mathematics, statistics, computer science, engineering, or a related discipline with strong computational and mathematical components

  5. No previous scholarship to study at an AIMS centre

 

Application Procedure

1. Registration: Create an account on the AIMS South Africa application portal.


2. Application Submission: Complete and submit the online application form, including personal information and a statement of interest.


3. Documentation: Upload the following documents:

  • Curriculum vitae

  • Motivation letter (around 500 words)

  • Academic transcripts

  • Written mathematics questions (available on the application site)

  • Coding problem (available on the application site)


4. Deadline: Submit all materials by 11:59 PM SAST on March 21, 2025.


Selection Process:

The selection process for the AI for Science Master’s Scholarship at AIMS goes through the following phases:

  • Online Selection: Initial review of applications and documents.

  • Interviews: Short online interviews in May 2025 for shortlisted candidates.

  • Final Selection: Forty students will be selected for the 2025 intake and supported with full Google DeepMind scholarships.
