Fellowship structure and Modules
The Atlantic Fellows for Social and Economic Equity (AFSEE) program includes a variety of modules designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of social and economic inequality and to equip fellows with the tools to drive change. Here are some key modules:
1. Enacting Influence
This module focuses on developing the skills needed to influence policy and decision-making processes. It covers strategies for advocacy, lobbying, and engaging with key stakeholders.
2. Disruption and Change
Fellows explore the dynamics of social movements and how to create sustainable change. This module delves into the history and theory of social change, along with practical tools for activists.
3. Collaborative Fieldwork
This hands-on module involves working directly with communities and organizations to address real-world social and economic issues. Fellows gain practical experience and develop a deep understanding of the challenges faced by marginalized groups.
4. Indigenous Leadership
This module emphasizes the importance of indigenous knowledge and leadership in addressing inequality. Fellows learn from indigenous leaders and explore the intersection of traditional and contemporary approaches to social justice.
5. Powerful Encounters
A series of immersive experiences designed to challenge fellows' perspectives and deepen their understanding of inequality. This module includes site visits, guest lectures, and interactive workshops.
6. Social Change Project
Fellows design and implement a project that addresses a specific issue related to social and economic equity. This capstone module allows fellows to apply their learning in a practical, impactful way.
Residential Vs. Non-Residential Tracks
The Atlantic Fellows for Social and Economic Equity (AFSEE) program offers two tracks: **Residential** and **Non-Residential**.
I). Residential Track
Fellows in this track undertake the MSc in Inequalities and Social Science at the London School of Economics (LSE) during their active fellowship year. This provides a full-time, immersive experience at LSE, allowing fellows to engage deeply with academic coursework and the LSE community.
Non-Residential Track
Non-Residential Fellows participate in the program while continuing their work in their home countries. They undertake a Postgraduate Certificate in Social and Economic Equity, which includes intensive modules and practical experiences, but does not require them to be physically present at LSE for the entire year.
Both tracks include rigorous academic coursework, leadership and skills development, and practical approaches to fostering social change.
Eligibility Criteria
Mid-career social-change leaders who have at least seven years of experience in challenging inequalities.
Strong commitment to social and economic justice,
Applications are accepted from individuals working on any field of social and economic equity, including, but not limited to economic and social rights; sustainability and environmental justice; tax justice and economic alternatives; women’s, minority, and more
Must be able to meet LSE's English Language Requirements
Applicants to the Residential track must also qualify for admission to the MSc in Inequalities and Social Science programme at LSE
