The Baraza Media Lab Data Storytelling Fellowship is a specialized program designed to equip African storytellers, journalists, and content creators with the skills to leverage data for developing compelling stories. Fellowship Overview

The Data Storytelling Fellowship aims to train participants to analyze migration data, craft impactful stories, and gain credibility in their respective fields. The fellowship is a collaboration between Baraza Media Lab, MOVE Africa by the African Union, and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ).


Programme Structure and Activities

Participants can expect hands-on training and workshops focused on data analysis, visualization, and story development tailored to migration topics. The fellowship includes mentorship from experienced trainers who will guide participants through research methods, editorial workflows, and creative storytelling.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the fellowship, applicants must:

  1. Be African storytellers, journalists, or content creators

  2. Have a passion for migration stories and data-driven storytelling

  3. Be either early-career journalists, mid-career media professionals, influencers, or content creators

  4. A background in journalism and storytelling is helpful, but NOT MANDATORY

  • Links to at least two samples of your previous work (articles, videos, or other content).


There is no registration fee for the fellowship.
