Scholarship Overview

The Beit Trust has a long-standing tradition of supporting outstanding students from Zambia, Zimbabwe, and Malawi to undertake postgraduate studies that contribute to the development of their home countries. With a focus on developmental fields such as medicine, engineering, education, and conservation, these scholarships enable students to gain world-class education and bring valuable skills back home. Scholarships are jointly funded by the Beit Trust and the partner universities, allowing more students to benefit.

The Beit Trust Postgraduate Scholarships offer awarded students the opportunity to pursue Master's degree education at the following universities.


In United Kingdom

  • University of Cambridge

  • University of Edinburgh

  • University of Glasgow

  • University of Leeds

  • University of Oxford

  • University of St Andrews (Only for Computer Science)

  • University of Strathclyde (Only for Engineering)


In South Africa

  • Rhodes University

  • Stellenbosch University

  • University of Cape Town

  • University of Pretoria

 

Scholarship Funding and Benefits

The Beit Trust Scholarship is a fully funded postgraduate scholarship that covers:

  1. Tuition Fee: Full tuition fees and academic costs (paid directly to the university)

  2. Monthly Stipend: A maintenance allowance for living expenses (adjusted annually)

  3. Logistical allowances: Arrival and departure allowances

  4. Study Materials: A laptop allowance

  5. Airfare: Economy class flights to and from the place of study

  6. Insurance: Medical insurance (for South African universities only)


ℹ️ The scholarship does not cover spouses or dependents.

 

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the Beit Trust Postgraduate Scholarships, applicants must:

  1. Citizenship: Be nationals of Zambia, Zimbabwe, or Malawi and intend to return home after their studies

  2. Academic Background: Have at least an upper second-class (Merit or Distinction) undergraduate degree

  3. Experience: Have relevant professional work experience (at least 3 years preferred)

  4. Admission: Have secured admission to one of the partner universities before applying

  5. Study Field: Choose a course that aligns with the developmental needs of their home country

  6. Potential: Show leadership potential and a commitment to community development


ℹ️ Additional Requirements for Medical and Veterinary Applicants

  • Must have completed 18 months of internship and,

  • At least one year of practice, preferably in rural areas


✖️ Ineligible Applicants

  • Those already pursuing a postgraduate degree

  • Those applying for an MBA

  • Applicants who do not meet the nationality requirements

 

Application Procedure

I). For Applicants applying for UK Universities, follow below steps:

  1. Apply to one or more of the partner universities for admission

  2. As long as the course/s you wish to pursue are available, you may apply to more than one Partner University at a time. This will increase your chances of acceptance, and to broaden the scholarship opportunities available.

  3. Inform the university that you will be applying for a Beit Trust Scholarship

  4. Once accepted, apply for the Beit Trust Scholarship via the official application portal

  5. Submit supporting documents

  6. Arrange for three reference letters (Academic, Employer, and Character references)


II). For Applicants applying for South African Universities

  1. Since South African universities open applications after the Beit Trust deadline, applicants can apply for the scholarship first without an offer letter.

  2. Instead of an admission letter, submit a PDF list of intended universities and courses.

  3. If selected, you must secure admission before the scholarship is confirmed.

  1. Signed Medical Certificate (download from the Beit Trust website)

  2. University admission letter (or list of intended universities for South Africa)

  3. Undergraduate degree certificate and transcripts

  4. Curriculum Vitae (CV)

  5. Personal statement (250 words) on how your studies will benefit your country

  6. Recent photograph

  7. Copy of valid passport


Selection Process

  • Applications are highly competitive, and only the most qualified candidates will be shortlisted for interviews.

  • Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed in their home country (Zambia, Zimbabwe, or Malawi) in April 2025.
