If you're a student passionate about advancing the co-operative movement, the Canadian Association for Studies in Co-operation (CASC) Scholarships for 2025 present an excellent opportunity. Co-operatives and Mutuals Canada (CMC) is now accepting applications for three distinct scholarships aimed at supporting research and studies in co-operative enterprises.

 

Canadian Association for Studies in Co-operation (CASC) Scholarships Summary

CASC Scholarship Overview

CMC administers three scholarships to support studies and research that contribute to the development of co-operatives in Canada and internationally:


1. Alexander Fraser Laidlaw Fellowship:

Established by the Co-operative Housing Federation of Canada to honor Dr. Alexander Fraser Laidlaw, a pioneer in the non-profit co-operative housing movement. This fellowship is available exclusively to graduate students and is valued at $1,000. Selection is based on academic merit and the relevance of the proposed research to the co-operative movement.



2. Amy and Tim Dauphinee Scholarship:

Created by the Ontario Credit Union Foundation to recognize the significant contributions of Amy and Tim Dauphinee to the credit union movement. This $3,000 scholarship is open to graduate students and is awarded based on academic excellence and the potential impact of the research on co-operatives.



3. Lemaire Co-operative Studies Award:

Funded through the legacy of Louis Lemaire, a co-operative pioneer in Saskatchewan, this award is open to both undergraduate and graduate students. It aims to encourage studies and research that aid the development of co-operatives. Awards range up to $3,000, depending on the significance of the proposed studies.

 

Scholarship Benefits

  • Monetary Support: Financial assistance to further your studies or research in co-operative enterprises.

  • Professional Development: Recipients receive a one-year membership in CASC and complimentary registration for the CASC conference, offering valuable networking opportunities.

  • Recognition: Awardees may be featured as scholarship recipients and could be invited to present their research at future CASC conferences.

 

Eligibility Criteria

  1. Applicants must be enrolled at Canadian universities or university-equivalent colleges, regardless of citizenship, or be Canadian citizens or permanent residents studying at such institutions outside Canada.

  2. Candidates should be currently engaged in research or plan to commence their research within one calendar year.


Additional Criteria:

  • For Lemaire Co-operative Studies Award: Applicants must have been involved with co-operatives, demonstrate an understanding of co-operative principles, and be enrolled in at least one course related to co-operatives.

 

Application Procedure

To apply for any of these scholarships, complete the application form and submit the following documents:

  1. Academic Transcripts: Copies of previous degrees and transcripts.

  2. List of Achievements: A summary of academic awards, distinctions, and scholarships received.

  3. Reference Letters: Two letters of reference, with at least one being an academic reference.

  4. Research Outline: A detailed outline of your research project, including scope, objectives, theoretical significance, practical importance, methodology, and a work schedule.
