The CAS-ANSO Scholarship is a prestigious initiative for students and young scientists seeking advanced education and research opportunities in China. Here's everything you need to know about the 2025 CAS-ANSO Scholarship (Degree Program) application process.

 

CAS-ANSO Scholarship Overview

The Alliance of National and International Science Organizations (ANSO) was established in 2018 by the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and 36 other international scientific institutions. ANSO aims to enhance global capacity in science, technology, and human development through collaboration.


The CAS-ANSO Scholarship, launched in 2019 (previously known as ANSO Scholarship for Young Talents), supports students worldwide to pursue Master's and PhD degrees at the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC), the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS), and CAS institutes across China.

 

Program Highlights

1). Scholarship Categories

  • Master's Degree Program (100-200 students annually)

  • PhD Program (300 students annually)


2). Special Focus

The ANSO-CAS-TWAS/UNESCO PhD Scholarship, initiated in 2022, prioritizes students from Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and women. It supports up to 40 PhD students annually.

 

CAS-ANSO Scholarship Coverage

Recipients of the CAS-ANSO Scholarship are entitled to the following:

  1. Full tuition waiver

  2. Monthly stipend (Master's: ¥3,000; PhD: ¥6,000)

  3. Health insurance

  4. Travel subsidy (for international awardees)

  5. Research funding

  6. On-campus accommodation

⚠️ Notes:

  • Scholarship recipients in China at the time of application are not eligible for travel subsidies.

  • Awardees must complete language and cultural training, meet academic requirements, and comply with annual assessments to retain their scholarships.

 

CAS-ANSO Scholarship Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for the CAS-ANSO Scholarship, applicants must:

  • Nationality: Be non-Chinese citizens.

  • Language Proficiency: Demonstrate proficiency in English or Chinese.

  • Age Requirements: Master’s applicants: Born on or after January 1, 1995. PhD applicants: Born on or after January 1, 1990.

  • Academic Background: Meet USTC or UCAS international admission criteria.


- Restrictions:

  • Applicants already pursuing degrees in China are ineligible.

  • Simultaneous applications to both USTC and UCAS are not allowed.

 

Application Procedure

1. Prepare application materials based on guidelines provided by USTC or UCAS.


2. Access the respective admission portals:

3. Select "CAS-ANSO Scholarship" during the application process.


4. Indicate interest in the ANSO-CAS-TWAS/UNESCO PhD Scholarship (if applicable).


Application Documents :

  • Copy of Passport having at least 2 years validity

  • Updated CV with a brief introduction of research experience

  • Copy of Original Degree certificates:

  • Master’s Degree applicants have to submit Bachelor’s degree certificate or official pre-graduation certificate showing their student status and stating the expected graduation date.

  • PhD Degree applicants have to submit the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree certificate.

  • Master’s degree certificate or official pre-graduation certificate showing their student status and stating the expected graduation date.

  • Two Reference Letters

  • Research Proposal

  • Photocopies of 5 published academic papers (if available)

  • Proof of of English and/or Chinese Language Proficiency

  • Foreigner Physical Examination Form
