CLARITY-Africa PhD Scholarship Summary

CLARITY-Africa Scholarship Overview
The Climate Change Resilient Equitable Healthy Cities in Africa (CLARITY-Africa) project is a consortium coordinated by Imperial College London, including UG, AIMS RIC, and other leading universities. Implemented in collaboration with policy and societal partners in Accra, Tamale, Kigali, and Musanze, the project seeks to co-produce novel knowledge on how climate change affects environmental risk exposures and identify vulnerable groups impacted by climate and environmental changes. Focus areas include communities affected by heat or flooding due to urban expansion or densification.
Program Structure
University of Ghana (UG):
Year 1: Full-year coursework
Year 2: Experiential learning through attachments to relevant institutions
Years 3-4: Research focused on heat, flooding, or drought in one of the identified cities
AIMS Research and Innovation Centre (AIMS RIC):
3-year research program focusing on heat, flooding, or drought in one of the identified cities
PhD students will have opportunities to spend time in related or partner institutions as part of their learning process and will be supervised by faculty and researchers within the CLARITY consortium.

Eligibility Criteria
Master’s degree in a related discipline (e.g., climate science, demography, economics, geography, environmental science, public health, environmental health, mathematical and physical sciences)
Openness to conducting research aligned with CLARITY-Africa's focus
Familiarity with analytical and statistical methods is advantageous
Strong communication skills
Demonstrated research potential through academic performance and relevant activities
University of Ghana PhD Year 1 students are also eligible to apply

Statement of purpose (max 2,000 words) detailing specific research interests and how the scholarship will benefit their research career
Two-page research proposal
Complete academic CV, including publications and research experience
Copies of recent graduate transcripts
Copies of graduate certificates
