DAAD LFA Scholarship Summary

LFA Scholarship Overview

The DAAD Leadership for Africa (LfA) programme provides fully funded Master’s degrees in Germany, alongside a compulsory leadership training programme. This training focuses on:

Selected candidates will also undergo a 6-month German language course before starting their studies.

 

Scholarship Benefits and Financial Arrangements

The DAAD Leadership for Africa scholarship provides comprehensive financial and academic support, including:

  1. Monthly stipend: €992 per month

  2. German language course: Up to 6 months (including accommodation and test fees)

  3. Health insurance: Full coverage in Germany

  4. Travel allowance: Flights to and from Germany covered

  5. Study allowance: Annual academic support grant

  6. Housing assistance: Possible rent subsidy

  7. Family allowance: Additional support for spouses and children (if applicable)

 

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

For Refugees:

  • Recognized refugee status in South Sudan or Uganda (before April 2, 2024)

  • Valid refugee status until at least April 2026

  • Completed a Bachelor’s degree before applying


For Graduates from South Sudan or Uganda

  • Citizen of South Sudan or Uganda

  • Resident in South Sudan or Uganda

  • Completed a Bachelor’s degree before applying

  • CV (maximum 3 pages)

  • Letter of Motivation (1-3 pages)

  • Study course profile (listing 3 chosen Master’s programmes)

  • Proof of language proficiency

  • Bachelor’s degree certificate & transcripts

  • Copy of passport or national ID

  • Proof of residence in South Sudan or Uganda

  • For refugees: UNHCR registration or official asylum documentation


Selection Process

  1. Pre-selection: Based on submitted applications

  2. Interview: Shortlisted candidates will be invited for a virtual interview with a DAAD selection committee

  3. Final decision: Candidates will be evaluated on academic performance, motivation, leadership potential, and social background
