Fellowship Overview

DAWN (Development Alternatives with Women for a New Era) is a network of feminist researchers and activists from the Global South. Founded in 1984, DAWN focuses on gender and economic justice, sustainable development, and democratic governance. The organization challenges social, economic, and political inequities while advocating for feminist alternatives.


The DAWN Fellowship is designed to support young feminist leaders in deepening their understanding of the intersection between gender-based violence and conflict. The inaugural fellowship particularly encourages projects focusing on Palestine but is open to proposals addressing other conflict-affected areas.


Program Structure and Objectives

  • Fellows develop and implement projects that focus on research, advocacy, mobilization, resistance, or creative expression.

  • The fellowship enhances the visibility of feminist perspectives on the political economy of gender-based violence and conflict.

Eligibility Criteria

To be considered for the DAWN Fellowship for Young Women Feminists from the Global South, applicants must meet below criteria:

  1. Must be women feminists under 40.

  2. Must be from the Global South.

  3. Demonstrated commitment to feminist principles and methodologies.

  4. Proposals should align with the theme of The Political Economy of Gender-Based Violence and Conflict.

  5. Open to research, advocacy, mobilization, resistance, or creative expression projects.

 

Application Procedure

1. Proposal Submission

Applicants submit a fellowship application form outlining project objectives, methodology, expected outcomes, and timeline.


2. Supporting Documents:

  • Detailed CV

  • One letter of recommendation from a non-related referee

  • Statement of motivation


3. Project Budget

Applicants must submit a detailed budget aligned with the fellowship amount stipulated in the Fellowship Guidelines.


4. Review and Selection

Applications are evaluated based on relevance, feasibility, originality, and impact. Shortlisted candidates may be invited for interviews.
