Digital Policy Hub Fellowship 2025-2026 in Canada

If you are an emerging scholar, researcher, or policy professional interested in the intersection of digital technology and governance, applications are now open for the 2025-2026 cohort of the Digital Policy Hub Fellowship. Hosted by the Centre for International Governance Innovation (CIGI) in Canada, this prestigious fellowship provides an opportunity for participants to develop their research, analytical, and policy skills within a collaborative and interdisciplinary environment.

 

Fellowship Summary

  • Location: Canada (CIGI Campus, Waterloo, Ontario)

  • Host Institution: Centre for International Governance Innovation (CIGI)

  • Target Group: Undergraduate, Master's, Doctoral, Post-Doctoral students, and visiting fellows from the public and private sectors

  • Funding: Fully funded for academic fellows; visiting fellows are unfunded

  • Duration: Up to 12 Months

  • Application Deadline: March 3, 2025

  • Start Date: Fall 2025

  • Eligible To: Canadian citizens, permanent residents, and international students with valid work authorization in Canada

 

Fellowship Overview

About the Digital Policy Hub

The Digital Policy Hub at CIGI is a pioneering initiative designed to bring together innovative thinkers from diverse disciplines. The program provides an intellectually stimulating space where participants engage with leading policy experts and researchers, developing impactful work that addresses digital governance challenges.


Programme Structure

  1. Weekly Core Seminar: A two-hour seminar where fellows share research, receive feedback, and engage with guest speakers.

  2. Professional Development: Workshops on policymaking, research mobilization, and analytical skills.

  3. Research Output: Fellows are expected to produce at least one research paper per term.

  4. End-of-Term Conference: Fellows present their research findings at a conference held at the CIGI Campus.

  • Governance of emerging technologies

  • Policy responses to technological disruptions


Fellowship Duration

  • Undergraduate: 8 months (academic year)

  • Master’s: 8 months (academic year)

  • Doctoral: 12 months (full calendar year)

  • Post-Doctoral: 12 months (full calendar year)

  • Visiting Fellows: Flexible duration

 

Fellowship Requirements and Activities

  • Attend and actively participate in weekly seminars

  • Conduct independent research aligned with the Hub’s core themes

  • Develop and present research papers

  • Engage in networking opportunities and community-building initiatives

  • Attend the end-of-term research conference in Waterloo, Ontario

 

Programme Benefits

  • Funding & Salary:

- Undergraduate: $23,000 (8 months)

- Master’s: $25,000 (8 months)

- Doctoral: $52,000 (12 months)

- Post-Doctoral: $60,000 (12 months)

  • Travel Allowance: Funding covers travel and accommodation for the end-of-term research conference

  • Workspace & Amenities: Fellows receive access to shared office space, Wi-Fi, and parking at the CIGI Campus

 

Eligibility Criteria

  • Academic Fellows: Must be enrolled at a Canadian post-secondary institution at the time of application and throughout the fellowship

  • Post-Doctoral Fellows: Must have completed a Ph.D. at a Canadian institution within the past four years

  • Supervisory Requirement: Academic applicants must have a supervisor willing to oversee their research

  • Visiting Fellows: Open to government and private sector professionals (unfunded)

  • Residency Requirement: Must be based in Canada; hybrid participation is allowed

 

Application Procedure

Required Documents

  • Cover letter and CV

  • Research proposal (2-3 pages)

  • Two letters of support: For Academic applicants, One letter must confirm supervisory support. For Visiting applicants One letter must confirm employer support.

  • Proof of enrollment (for academic applicants)


Application Process

  1. Submit the online application form via the Digital Policy Hub website

  2. Applications are reviewed for eligibility

  3. Selected candidates are invited for interviews

  4. Final selections are made based on the quality of research proposals and overall fit within the cohort

  5. Successful applicants are notified within 10 weeks of the deadline
