Elevate: Boosting diversity in STEM Scholarship program 2025

The Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering (ATSE) is pleased to announce more than 250 scholarship recipients of the nationally recognised Elevate: Boosting diversity in STEM program for 2025.


2025 Elevate scholars around the country will receive support to access science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) university education at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. They will directly contribute to growing the diverse STEM workforce needed to deliver on Australia’s national priorities over coming decades, including the renewable energy transition, advanced manufacturing and artificial intelligence.

About The Programme

Applications will open in May 2025 for Elevate scholarships to commence study in 2026.


Elevate aims to address inequities in STEM through comprehensive scholarships enabling more diverse women and non-binary people to access tertiary STEM education, professional skills development and STEM leadership opportunities with industry and academia.


Elevate scholarships are awarded across three categories – Undergraduate, Postgraduate Research, and Leadership. ATSE administers and delivers Elevate.

 

Programme Benefits

The Elevate program provides the following:

  • A scholarship

  • Access to events and networking

  • Mentoring

  • Wellbeing support during scholars’ university studies

 

Scholarship Value

There are three categories of scholarships in the Elevate program. Each scholarship category has a different application form with its own criteria for assessment and value as outlined below:


Undergraduate Scholarship

Up to $30,000 over up to 3 years. Applicants looking to commence an undergraduate degree such as a Bachelor or Associate degree in an eligible STEM field.


Postgraduate Research Scholarship

Up to $130,224.50 over up to three and a half years. Applicants looking to commence a postgraduate research degree such as a Doctor of Philosophy, Master of Philosophy, or Master by Research in an eligible STEM field. Applicants who demonstrate industry collaboration will be prioritised in this category.


Leadership Scholarship

Up to $70,000 over up to two years. Applicants who have a STEM qualification and are looking to commence a degree to improve business acumen OR applicants looking to commence a Master by Coursework in an eligible STEM field. Applicants who demonstrate leadership capability will be prioritised in this category.

 

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants are required to meet all three eligibility criteria:

  1. Identify as a woman or non-binary person

  2. Be enrolling as a domestic student at an Australian University

  3. Be planning to undertake a STEM degree OR higher studies to improve business acumen (leadership category only), commencing in 2025


➢ ATSE particularly encourages applications from individuals who identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander; individuals from regional, rural or remote areas; LGBTQIA+; individuals from culturally or linguistically diverse backgrounds; low-socioeconomic backgrounds; or those living with a disability. Diversity, inclusion, and achievement relative to opportunity will be considered in the assessment and selection process.

 

Key dates - 2026 program

  • Applications open: 1 May 2025

  • Applications close: 30 August 2025

  • Assessment period: Sep.-Oct. 2025

  • Scholarships announced: Nov. 2024

  • Scholarships commence: January 2026
