Programme Overview

The IMSOGLO program focuses on understanding the chemistry, physics, and biology of soils, including their formation and interactions with plants. Students learn to measure, monitor, and model soil properties and processes in space and time, and to develop and implement climate-smart soil management policies. The program emphasizes a multidisciplinary approach to soil science and global change, preparing graduates to contribute to policy-relevant research and sustainable soil use.

Curriculum, Program Structure, and Tracks

The IMSOGLO program is structured as follows:

  • First Year: Students study at one of the European partner universities.

  • Second Year: Students study at a different European partner university.

  • Tracks: The program offers tracks in soil biogeochemistry, soil physics, soil biology, and soil management.

 

Scholarship Benefits

Students who are awarded the Erasmus+ Scholarship for The IMSOGLO master's program will enjoy a comprehensive financial support including:

  1. Full tuition fees waiver

  2. Travel expenses and visa assistance

  3. Monthly stipend of €1,400 for living costs (accommodation, food, medical insurance, and visa costs)

 

Eligibility Criteria

Academic Qualifications

To be eligible for the IMSOGLO scholarship, applicants must possess:

  1. A Bachelor’s degree (minimum 180 ECTS credits or equivalent) in disciplines such as chemistry, biology, geology, environmental sciences, agricultural engineering, or similar fields from a recognized institution.

  2. The degree should include at least 40 ECTS credits in natural sciences, covering four or more of the following areas: physics, chemistry, mathematics, ecology, biology, geology, physical geography, environmental sciences, and agricultural sciences.

  3. Applicants are expected to have achieved top-tier academic performance, typically within the top 30% of their cohort.

  4. Open to international students from all countries.


English Language Proficiency

Applicants must demonstrate their English proficiency by submitting one of the following test certificates:

  • TOEFL iBT: with a minimum score of 90 (TOEFL iBT Home Edition is accepted).

  • Academic IELTS: with an overall band score of at least 6.5 (minimum of 6 in writing).

  • Cambridge C1: Advanced Certificate.


Exemptions

Only if you have obtained your previous higher education degree in: (Australia, Belize, Botswana, Cameroon, Canada, Gambia, Ghana, Guyana, Hongkong, India, Ireland, Kenya, Liberia, Malawi, Malta, Namibia, New-Zealand, Nigeria, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Singapore, South Africa, Sudan, South Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda, United Kingdom, United States of America, Zambia or Zimbabwe) you can be exempted to provide an English Language Test Certificate. In this case, you need to provide an English Language of Instruction Certificate issued and signed by your previous university.

 

Application Process

Applications for the Erasmus Mundus IMSOGLO scholarship are submitted online through the admission portal of Ghent University.
