Curriculum, Program Structure, and Tracks

The EMGS program is structured as follows:

  • First Year: Students study at one of the European partner universities.

  • Second Year: Students study at a different European partner university.

  • Third Semester: Students have the option to spend a semester at a non-European partner university.


The curriculum combines approaches from global history, international studies, cultural studies, area studies, social sciences, and economics to investigate phenomena of global connectedness. The program emphasizes a multidisciplinary understanding of globalization and encourages students to develop social and communicative skills for working in a multicultural context.

 

EMGS Scholarship Benefits

Students awarded the EMGS scholarship will enjoy comprehensive financial support that covers:

  1. Full tuition fees

  2. Airfare expenses

  3. Monthly stipend of 1400 Euros to cover accommodation, food, medical insurance, and visa costs

  4. Mobility - related travel costs

 

Eligibility Criteria

  1. Hold a Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in social sciences or humanities with a minimum of 15% global studies–relevant courses.

  2. Have excellent written and oral command of English.

  3. Have basic knowledge of a further foreign language.

  4. Demonstrate a strong academic record.

 

Application Procedure

The applications for the EMGS programme are submitted online via the AlmaWeb portal of Leipzig University (You must select „Global Studies, Master, 1st semester“).

  2. Provide proof of a very good BA record in the social sciences or humanities.

  3. Submit a statement of purpose.

  4. Provide a curriculum vitae.

  5. Submit English test results (for non native English speakers)

  6. Provide high school diploma and university diplomas.

  7. Submit official transcripts.

  8. Provide proof of nationality.

  9. Submit proof of knowledge of another language.

  10. Provide one academic reference.

Selection Criteria

The decision on admission is made by the EMGS Study Purposes and Selection Committee and are based on the following criteria:

  • 50%: Academic excellence and quality/recognition of home institution that has awarded the first degree

  • 15%: Motivation and academic potential

  • 20%: Compatibility of previous degree(s) with the EMGS programme

  • 15%: Work experience/professional qualifications
