Ernst Mach - ASEA-UNINET Program Overview


  • Target Group: PhD holders, Postdocs from Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam.

  • Research Location: Austria at an ASEA-UNINET member university.

  • Duration: 1 or 2 months.

  • Eligibility: Applicants must be involved in teaching and/or research at an ASEA-UNINET member university.

  • Age Limit: Maximum age of 45 years, with consideration for child-raising periods.

  • Language Proficiency: Proficiency in English and/or German is required.

  • Application Deadline: Ongoing applications, to be submitted -9 months prior to the planned research stay.

  • Funding: Provided by OeAD-GmbH in cooperation with ASEA-UNINET, financed by the Austrian Federal Ministry of Education, Science, and Research.

  • Area of Research: Natural sciences, Technical Sciences, Human Medicine, Health Sciences, Agricultural Sciences, Social Sciences, Humanities, Arts

 

About the Programme

The goal of the Ernst Mach - ASEA-UNINET Short-term Research Grant is to foster international academic collaboration and provide postdoctoral researchers from Southeast Asia with the opportunity to advance their research in Austria. This program aims to enhance research skills, build professional networks, and promote cultural exchange by allowing scholars to work at esteemed Austrian universities. Through this grant, participants can contribute to innovative research projects across various research fields and gain invaluable experience that supports their academic and professional growth.

 

Financial Support and Duration

The Ernst Mach - ASEA-UNINET is a Short-term Research Grant that spans between one to two months.

Recipients of the grant will be given the following benefits:

  • Monthly grant rate of €1,300

  • Scholarship holders with citizenship and travel from Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar, or for their return, will also receive a travel costs subsidy of up to 2,000 Euro upon submission of original travel invoices.

  • Accommodation assistance


ℹ️ Applicants are required to have their own funds to cover the other costs associated with living expenses and rent.

 

Eligibility Criteria

  • Postdocs who are involved in teaching and research at an ASEA-UNINET member university in (Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Thailand or Vietnam)

  • Only those candidates who hold the citizenship of Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Thailand or Vietnam are eligible to apply.

  • Applicants must not have lived/studied/pursued research/pursued academic work in Austria in the last six months before taking up the grant

  • Not more Than 45 years old

  • Very good knowledge of English and/or German

ℹ️ During your application you'll be asked to upload consent documents as below:

  1. Written consent of the supervisor at the Austrian host university. Such a written consent may only be issued by a researcher or lecturer who is affiliated with an Austrian ASEA-UNINET member university and who holds a "Venia Docendi", e.g. a Full or Associate Professor.

  2. Written consent of the ASEA-UNINET university coordinator at the cooperating university in Austria.

  3. Written consent of the ASEA-UNINET university coordinator at the cooperating university in Asia.

  4. Written consent of the ASEA-UNINET national coordinator of the Asian member country.


ℹ️For these letters of consent no specific form is required; however, they must bear the letterhead, date and signature of the coordinator as well as the stamp of the university/department and must not be older than six months at the time of application.
