European Journalism Centre - Climate Journalism Award 2024 (€2,400 award)

Applications are now open for the 2nd Edition of the Climate Journalism Award.

The Climate Journalism Award 2024, organized by the European Journalism Centre in partnership with the Google News Initiative, aims to promote innovative and creative storytelling that highlights the fight against climate change. This award recognizes exceptional climate journalism that adopts an innovative or original storytelling approach, encouraging journalists to prioritize reporting on climate-related issues. The second edition of the award will grant a prize of €2,400 per each of five distinct categories.

 

Project Categories


1). Data-driven visualization: This category focuses on data-driven approaches that effectively visualize complex climate narratives.


2). Fighting climate misinformation: Recognizing climate stories that debunk myths and counter disinformation campaigns surrounding climate change and the climate crisis.


3). Pinpoint award for investigations: Honoring investigative reporting that holds those in power accountable for their actions and their impact on climate change and environmental issues.


4). Storytelling and solutions: Celebrating solutions-focused storytelling methods for communicating climate change stories.


5). Emerging talent: Acknowledging innovative climate reporting produced by journalists and newsrooms with less than three years of experience.

 

Eligibility criteria


1). Publication Date: Eligible projects must have been published in or on a European-based media outlet within the past 12 months (from 1 June 2023 to 31 May 2024).


2). Categories: Submissions must fall into one of the five categories mentioned in above section.


3). Language Requirement and nationality: Submissions must be accompanied by a full English transcript in PDF format.

No citizenship or residency restrictions exist, as long as the project has been published in or by a European-based media outlet.

The Award is open to reporting in any language but should be accompanied by a text-only translation in English.


4). Award Ceremony Attendance: Applicants must be able to attend The award ceremony which will take place at the News Impact Summit in Copenhagen on 10 October 2024. Travel and accommodation costs for up to two team members of any awarded team will be covered for attending the ceremony.
