About Us
The Chair of Statistics and Econometrics is a key part of LMU’s Department of Statistics. The group, led by Prof. Daniel Wilhelm, is embedded within the dynamic Munich Econometrics community. The group maintains robust connections with LMU’s Department of Economics and the econometrics team at TU Munich. Activities include international collaborations, hosting seminars, and organizing high-profile workshops. The research primarily focuses on advancing econometric theory and developing innovative statistical methods, particularly in microeconomics.
About the Position
Position: PhD Position in Econometrics
Location: Munich
Tasks and Responsibilities:
Engage in research projects within the team and develop your own research agenda.
Complete your doctoral thesis in econometrics.
Participate in teaching activities, including leading tutorials and supervising thesis work.
Contribute to the academic self-administration of the econometrics group.
Applicants are encouraged to apply to the Munich Graduate School of Economics (MGSE) by January 31, 2025. Those accepted into MGSE will benefit from a structured PhD program and can work on their dissertation at the Chair of Statistics and Econometrics after completing MGSE coursework. Direct application to the Chair without MGSE coursework is possible for candidates with advanced backgrounds.
Eligibility and Qualifications
Degree in mathematics, statistics, economics, or a related field.
Strong background in mathematics, probability, and statistics.
Excellent statistical programming skills (e.g., in R).
Ability to prove mathematical and statistical results (e.g., asymptotic properties of estimators and tests).
Excellent spoken and written English.
