The PhD candidate will be working on an ambitious project titled "Developing a Dimensional Metrology Cyber-Physical system to support new product introduction". The duration of this studentship is 3.5 years and is open for international students as well as UK students

Project Description

In the context of new product introduction, where multiple systems are developed alongside the product and manufacturing process, rapid improvement loops can lead to disconnects between the digital twin of the manufacturing process and the physical world. Challenges arise due to data collection and storage not being mature enough for easy comparison between physical measurements and digital simulations.

This PhD project aims to address these issues by developing a cyber-physical architecture that integrates tolerance simulation with metrology measurements within the manufacturing process. This initiative represents a significant opportunity for faster scaling of the production system while maintaining the right quality level. The PhD project is expected to support problem-solving in established manufacturers and scale-ups, providing a quality maturation methodology during product introduction.
