Project Overview
Structured optical materials, such as metamaterials and photonic crystals, demonstrate remarkable optical properties. However, designing these materials to achieve specific optical properties remains a challenge. This project will integrate machine learning and optimization algorithms to improve the design of nanophotonic structures. The successful candidate will be part of the Condensed Matter and Materials Theory division, which focuses on research in nanomechanics, optics, and quantum physics.
Chalmers University of Technology is a leading institution in nanoscience and offers access to state-of-the-art facilities, including one of Europe's largest nanofabrication clean rooms and high-performance computing resources.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct research on nanophotonic structures using machine learning and optimization techniques.
Collaborate with PhD students, postdocs, and faculty in theoretical and experimental research groups.
Contribute to the supervision of PhD and MSc students (optional).
Publish research findings in high-impact scientific journals.
Eligibility Criteria
Academic Background: PhD in physics, photonics, electrical engineering, or a related field (awarded within the last three years, with exceptions for parental leave, sick leave, or military service).
Technical Skills: Strong experience in machine learning and its applications.
Personal Qualities: Ability to work independently, take initiative, and demonstrate creativity.
Communication: Proficiency in written and spoken English.
