Applications are now invited for the Government of Czech Republic Summer Schools of Slavonic Studies (SSSS) 2025 intake.

The Summer Schools of Slavonic Studies (SSSS) are intensive Czech language and culture courses organized annually by several public universities in the Czech Republic during July and August. These programs cater to foreign students, educators, translators, interpreters, and academics in Czech and Slavic studies aged 18 and above. They are also open to anyone interested in Czech language, literature, history, and culture. This article will cover this exciting opportunity for you!

 

Program Overview

The SSSS offer Czech language courses at various proficiency levels, from absolute beginners (A0) to advanced students (C1). The curriculum includes seminars on Czech literature, culture, and history, complemented by leisure activities such as theater, music, and dance performances, excursions, and sightseeing trips.

  • Pilsen: University of West Bohemia, July 5 – 25, 2025

  • Poděbrady: Charles University, ÚJOP, July 7 – August 1, 2025

  • Olomouc: Palacký University, July 12 – August 10, 2025

  • Prague: Charles University, July 17 – August 14, 2025

  • Brno: Masaryk University, July 26 – August 23, 2025

  • České Budějovice: University of South Bohemia, August 3 – 25, 2025

 

Scholarship Opportunities

The Czech Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports offers scholarships covering registration, tuition fees, study materials, accommodation in student dormitories, and organized trips and events. These scholarships do not cover international travel costs, insurance, or visa processing.

 

Eligible Countries

Applicants from the following countries and territories are eligible for scholarships: Albania, Austria, Belgium (Flemish and French Communities), Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Canada (Alberta), China, Croatia, Denmark, Egypt, Estonia, Finland, France, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, India, Israel, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, North Macedonia, Mongolia, Montenegro, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Republic of Korea, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Ukraine, the United Kingdom, the USA, and Vietnam.

 

Application Process

The application process involves two stages for a complete application:


1. Nomination:

Applicants must submit their completed application forms and a CV in Czech or English to the appropriate institutions in their respective countries, such as Czech embassies or partner ministries. These institutions set their own deadlines and nominate candidates for the scholarships.


The applicants are required to file their completed application forms for the summer school scholarships and other documents, if they are required, with the relevant institutions accepting applications in the eligible countries, which then select the nominees for scholarship awards.

2. Registration:

Nominated candidates must register online and submit an application through the designated system. The Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, along with the respective Czech universities, will assess these applications.


The deadline for institutions to submit nominations to the Ministry is March 31, 2025. Applicants are advised to contact the relevant institutions in their countries promptly to inquire about specific deadlines and requirements.


Participation as a Self-Payer

Individuals willing to cover their own expenses can apply directly to the summer schools as self-paying participants. Information on registration for self-payers is available on the websites of the respective organizing universities.


Health Insurance and Visa Requirements

Scholarship holders must arrange their own health insurance for the duration of their stay in the Czech Republic. Additionally, participants from non-EU/EEA countries should apply for visas well in advance.
