ICANN Fellowship Overview

The ICANN Fellowship Program aims to strengthen the diversity of the multistakeholder model by fostering opportunities for individuals from underserved and underrepresented communities to become active participants in the ICANN community. Fellows are exposed to the workings of the ICANN community, assigned a mentor, and receive training across different areas of knowledge and skill-building before, during, and after an ICANN Public Meeting. Travel assistance to attend the meeting is also provided.

 

Fellowship Benefits

  • Comprehensive Training: Fellows receive training across different areas of knowledge and skill-building before, during, and after an ICANN Public Meeting.

  • Mentorship: Each fellow is assigned a mentor to guide them through the ICANN community and processes.

  • Networking Opportunities: Fellows have the chance to network and interact with program alumni and community members.

  • Travel Assistance: ICANN provides travel assistance, including airfare, accommodation, and per diem, to attend the ICANN Public Meeting.

 

Eligibility Criteria

  1. Age Requirement: Applicants must be at least 21 years old.

  2. Interest in ICANN's Work: Candidates should be interested in, or already engaged in, the various components of ICANN's work, including policy development, DNS operations, and Internet security and stability.

  3. Mandatory Courses: Completion of mandatory ICANN Learn courses is required before applying.

  4. Travel Program Restrictions: Applicants should not be involved in or associated with other ICANN-supported travel programs at the time of selection.

  5. Fellowship Limit: Candidates must have received no more than two prior fellowships; second and third-time applicants must demonstrate their involvement and engagement in one of the ICANN communities.

 

Application Procedure

1. ICANN Account: Applicants must create an ICANN Account to access the application system. Sing up here


2. Online Application: Complete and submit the online application form during the open application round.


3. ICANN Learn Courses: Ensure completion of the mandatory ICANN Learn courses before applying.


4. Supporting Documents: Prepare any necessary supporting documents as specified in the application form.


Additional Information:

  • Application Deadlines: The application round for the ICANN84 Annual General Meeting is open from 25 February 2025 to 25 March 2025 at 23:59 UTC.

  • Program Status: If the ICANN meeting is held virtually, the Fellowship Program will also be conducted virtually, incorporating all key elements of the program.

  • Special Recognitions: Returning fellows may be considered for the Tarek Kamel Fellowship Recognition, honoring outstanding contributions in furthering ICANN's capacity development efforts. Additionally, the Paul Muchene Fellow Award recognizes fellows from the African region with technical backgrounds.
