ICIQ Summer Fellowship Programme Summary

ICIQ Summer Fellowship Programme Overview

The ICIQ Summer Fellowship Programme is designed to immerse undergraduate students in a vibrant research environment. Participants will undertake research projects under the mentorship of PhD students or postdoctoral researchers, gaining hands-on experience in advanced chemical research. Throughout their tenure, fellows will have access to seminars and conferences, enhancing their academic and professional development. The programme culminates with fellows presenting a report and a summary of their research findings.

  • Computational Mechanochemistry: Led by Prof. Feliu Maseras

  • Molecular Redox Catalysts for Renewable Solar Fuels: Under Prof. Antoni Llobet

  • Sustainable Strategies for Organic Transformations Using Earth-Abundant Metals: Guided by Prof. Mónica H. Pérez-Temprano

  • Gold(I)-Catalyzed Late-Stage Modification of Pharmaceuticals: Supervised by Prof. Antonio M. Echavarren

  • Chiral Recognition in Robust, Highly-Porous Metal-Organic Frameworks: Directed by Prof. JR Galán-Mascarós

  • Turning Low-Carbon Waste into Advanced Polymers: Managed by Prof. Arjan Kleij

  • Catalytic Skeletal Editing of Heterocycles: Overseen by Prof. Marcos G. Suero

Applicants may select up to two research groups, with priority given to their first choice.

 

Programme Benefits

  1. Financial Support: A stipend totaling €2,000 for the 10-week duration. For stays shorter than 10 weeks, the stipend will be adjusted proportionally. Note: Non-resident beneficiaries are subject to a 24% withholding tax, reduced to 19% for residents of EU or EEA member states.

Eligibility Criteria

  1. Academic Background: Applicants should be undergraduate students in Chemistry, Physics, Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry, Pharmacy, Applied Mathematics, Data Science, Biology, or related fields. Those from other disciplines will not be considered.

  2. Academic Standing: Candidates should preferably be in their 3rd or final year of undergraduate studies or have completed at least 50% of their credits by the time of acceptance. Graduate students are not eligible.

  3. Visa Requirements: Depending on nationality, a student visa may be required. Awardees must ensure they obtain the necessary visa before the programme commences in the first week of July.

  4. Health Insurance: Non-EU nationals must secure their own medical insurance for the programme's duration. EU nationals are required to obtain the European Health Insurance Card prior to arrival.

 

Application Procedure

Interested candidates must complete the application form and submit the following documents:

  1. Letter of Motivation: Detail your interest in joining ICIQ for the summer, including your availability dates.

  2. Curriculum Vitae (CV): Highlighting academic achievements and relevant experiences.

  3. Academic Record: A transcript from the beginning of your Bachelor's studies, indicating courses, credits, grades, and, if available, the average grade. For records not in Catalan, Spanish, or English, a certified translation into one of these languages is required.
