KOPRI Fellowship Program 2025

If you are an early-career scientist interested in polar research, applications are now open for the 2025 Korea Polar Research Institute (KOPRI) Fellowship Program. This program provides a unique opportunity for researchers to collaborate with KOPRI scientists and gain access to state-of-the-art facilities in Korea. The fellowship aims to foster international collaboration in polar science by inviting researchers from eligible countries to participate in an institute visiting program.

Fellowship Overview

The KOPRI Fellowship Program 2025 consists of two categories: the Asia Fellowship and the Antarctic Fellowship. The program invites researchers to participate in the Institute Visiting Program, where fellows are provided office space and/or laboratory access within KOPRI facilities. The start date and specific research activities will be determined through discussions with KOPRI scientists.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Academic Level: Applicants must be early-career scientists (either currently enrolled in a master's or doctoral program or within five years of completing their degree)

  • For the Asia Fellowship: Applicants must be from an Asian country

  • For the Antarctic Fellowship: Applicants must be from Chile or New Zealand

  • Endorsement: Each applicant must have the support of a KOPRI scientist

  • Additional requirements: In the case of the Antarctic Fellowship, additional recommendations from the Korea-New Zealand Antarctic Cooperation Centre or the Korea-Chile Antarctic Cooperation Centre are preferred but not mandatory

 

Application Procedure

Prospective applicants must contact a KOPRI scientist to discuss their research proposal before applying. If an applicant has difficulty identifying a suitable research partner, KOPRI’s Office of Global Cooperation can provide assistance. For details, refer to this PDF Document.

  4. Letter of recommendation

  5. Additional letters of recommendation for the Antarctic Fellowship (preferred but not mandatory)


Applications must be submitted via email to [fellowship@kopri.re.kr] by March 27, 2025.


Additional Information

  • Awardees will be announced in April 2025 via email

  • Fellows are required to submit monthly reports and a final report upon completion of the program

  • The program follows Korean government guidelines on international travel, so operational details may be subject to change
