Latvian state scholarships Overview
The Latvian State Scholarships aim to promote international collaboration in education and science. They are available to students, researchers, and academic staff from countries that have signed agreements with Latvia.
Types of Scholarships
Study Scholarships: For full-time Bachelor’s, Master’s, and PhD students.
Research Scholarships: For researchers and academic staff aiming to conduct research in Latvia.
Amount of the scholarships
Bachelor’s students: €500 per month
Master’s students: €600 per month
PhD students: €700 per month
⚠️ Important Notes about Coverage
The scholarship provides a monthly stipend to assist with living expenses. However, it does not fully cover all study-related expenses, such as tuition fees, travel costs to and from Latvia, and other personal expenses.
A scholarship holder is required to make his own arrangements for insurance coverage.
Travel expenses from a home country to and from Latvia are not covered by Latvian state scholarships.
If student is present in the territory of Latvia for less than 15 calendar days, then no scholarship is provided.
Eligibility Criteria
Nationality: Applicants must be citizens of countries that have a bilateral agreement with Latvia (listed below)
Academic Requirements: Bachelor’s applicants; Must have completed at least one academic year at their home institution. Master’s and PhD applicants: Must hold a relevant degree from a recognized institution.
Language Proficiency: Proficiency in the language of instruction (English or Latvian) is required.

Application Conditions and Procedure
Before starting your application, read the following Application Conditions:
An applicant must choose a study programme at a Latvian HEI prior to the application for a scholarship;
An applicant, who is already studying at a Latvian HEI, should also receive the confirmation letter for the present or chosen study programme prior to the application for a scholarship;
The confirmation letter for the chosen study programme from a Latvian HEI needs to be provided by the designated contact person.
The international student can receive a Latvian state scholarship for a maximum of two terms during their studies.
