McCain Global Leaders Program 2025

The McCain Global Leaders Program (MGLP) 2025 is now accepting applications for its prestigious initiative, designed to empower emerging leaders dedicated to advancing democracy, human rights, and conflict resolution in their home countries and regions. Spearheaded by the McCain Institute, this transformative 12-month program fosters professional development, peer networking, and leadership excellence inspired by the legacy of Senator John McCain.


The MGLP offers a unique opportunity for individuals who are passionate about addressing global challenges such as authoritarianism, migration, and great-power competition. Participants engage in targeted regional and global programming, practical leadership training, and collaborative problem-solving.

Program Overview

The MGLP focuses on empowering participants to champion democratic principles and human rights. The 2025 cohort will engage in programming centered around the global theme of Advancing Democracy and Human Rights.


Regional Themes for 2025:

  • Western Hemisphere: Protecting Migrants' Human Rights

  • Europe & Eurasia: Countering Authoritarianism

  • Africa & Middle East: Conflict Resolution Foundations

  • Asia & Oceania: Navigating Great-Power Competition

 

Curriculum and In-Person Events

Throughout the program, Leaders participate in a curriculum that is administered both online and in person. The curriculum is designed to incorporate lessons and experiences from Senator McCain’s life, to reinforce and augment in-person engagements and to focus on community building and group problem-solving. A central tenet of the curriculum is a dynamic peer-mentorship model, through which the Leaders support each other’s journeys directly. Key components In-person Events are:


1). Fall 2025 (Annapolis, MD & Washington, D.C.)

A 10-day Leadership Experience to explore leadership principles, engage with experts, and develop personal leadership goals.


2). Winter 2025/26 (Regional Host Country)

A Changemaker Tour focused on regional themes and collaboration.


3). Spring 2026 (Vietnam)

The Legacy Experience, reflecting on leadership journeys and fostering professional connections.

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates should meet the following requirements:

  1. Be aged between 25 and 45 (flexible based on experience)

  4. Exhibit diversity in professional and personal backgrounds
