Scholarship Overview

Available Study Programs

Applicants must select fields related to their prior studies. Programs in traditional arts (e.g., Kabuki) or practical training requiring company internships are not eligible. Scholarship Benefits and Coverage

1). Monthly stipend as follows:

  • ¥143,000 (non-regular students)

  • ¥144,000 (master’s students)

  • ¥145,000 (doctoral students)

  • Additional regional allowance of ¥2,000-¥3,000 for designated areas


2). Full coverage of tuition, entrance, and matriculation fees


3). Economy-class airfare to and from Japan


4. Japanese Language Training

  • Six months of preparatory education if required


5. Housing Options:

  • Access to university residence halls or assistance in finding private housing

 

MEXT Scholarship Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet the following conditions:

  • Nationality: Must hold citizenship in a country with diplomatic ties to Japan.

  • Academic Qualifications:

- Master’s programs: Completion of 16 years of education outside Japan

- Doctoral programs: Master’s degree or equivalent research experience

  • Language Proficiency: Willingness to learn Japanese and adapt to Japanese culture.

  • Health: Must be in good health, certified by a physician.

  • Age: Born on or after April 2, 1990 (exceptions for specific circumstances).

6. Other Requirements: No prior enrollment in Japanese universities under the same scholarship, Applicants must not hold dual Japanese citizenship unless they renounce it before arriving in Japan.

 

Application Procedure

1. Application Submission

Submit the required documents to the Japanese embassy or consulate in your country.
