MOFA Taiwan Fellowship 2025

Applications are now open MOFA Taiwan Fellowships for experts interested in conducting research in Taiwan -related areas of Research.

MOFA Taiwan Fellowship is established by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) to award foreign experts and scholars interested in researches related to Taiwan, cross-strait relations, Asia-Pacific region and Sinology to conduct advanced research at universities or academic institutions in Taiwan. The MOFA Taiwan Fellowship is fully funded research Fellowship that covers all expenses, including airfare, accommodation, and a monthly stipend, ensuring that fellows can focus entirely on their academic pursuits without financial concerns.

MOFA Taiwan Fellowship is open for application in May and June every year and recipients will conduct their research in Taiwan as early as January the next year.

 

MOFA Taiwan Fellowship Coverage


1). Monthly grants as follows:

  • Professors, associate professors, research fellows, or associate research fellows: NT$60,000

  • Assistant professors, assistant research fellows, or doctoral candidates: NT$50,000.


2). One round-trip, economy-class ticket for the most direct route to Taiwan (The subsidy will be decided by MOFA in accordance with the relevant regulations).


3). The terms of fellowship are 3 to 12 months.


4). Accident insurance (plus a medical insurance for accidental injuries) coverage of NT$1 million.

 

Eligibility

  • Recipients shall be foreign professors, associate professors, assistant professors, post-doctoral researchers, doctoral candidates, or doctoral program students at related departments of overseas universities, or are research fellows at an equivalent level in academic institutions abroad.

  • candidates recommended by ROC (Taiwan) overseas missions with a field of study on Taiwan’s foreign relations or cross-strait relations.

 

Application Procedure

Applications for MOFA Taiwan Fellowship are made online according to below steps:


1). Prepare the application documents

  • Resume(including a publication list)

  • Research proposal

  • Two letters of recommendation or one letter of recommendation and one letter of agreement from the highest administrative director of your institution


2). Online Application

Fill in the Online application form and upload the above application documents.


3). Print and Send hard copy of your application

Applicants should print their complete application form and send all application documents to an R.O.C (Taiwan) Embassy or Representative Office by post.


4). Selection and Nomination

The committee will select the candidates based on the comments from R.O.C (Taiwan) Embassy or Representative Office, and the candidates will be informed by email.


5). Contact Universities for consent

The candidates should contact ROC universities or research institutions and obtain the letter of consent for them to do research in Taiwan.


6). Sending the letter of consent

The candidates should send the letter of consent to Taiwan Fellowship team (Eamil: (twfellowship@ncl.edu.tw; twjob@ncl.edu.tw; twjob2@ncl.edu.tw) by December 31st, and check the Terms of Agreement for the Taiwan Fellowship.


7). Receive Grant Authorization Letter

The candidates will obtain the "Grant Authorization Letter" from Taiwan Fellowship team and officially be recognized as the recipients, which will be announced in the News on their website.


8). Accept and Apply for Visa

The recipients should apply to the "FR" visa with "Grant Authorization Letter" and begin their research in Taiwan on the designated date.
