The National Museum of Mathematics (MoMath) invites applications for its prestigious 2025–2026 Exponent Fellowship—a unique, fully paid, year-long program designed for recent mathematics graduates passionate about engaging the public with the beauty and relevance of math.

🎓 MoMath Exponent Fellowship Overview

The Exponent Fellowship offers a dynamic blend of public engagement, professional development, and creative exploration. Fellows will:

  • Serve as mathematical docents, interacting with visitors on the exhibit floor.

  • Enhance outreach and communication skills.

  • Deepen mathematical knowledge through collaboration with global mathematicians.

  • Develop and complete a unique personal project.

  • Engage with MoMath’s senior leadership and Visiting Professor.

  • Gain insights into museum operations and business management.

  • Participate in diverse programs, lectures, and networking events.

  • Join a motivated and talented cohort of peers.

 

✅ Eligibility Criteria

Ideal candidates will:

  1. Hold a bachelor's degree or equivalent in mathematics with a minimum 3.5 GPA.

  2. Possess strong interpersonal and communication skills.

  3. Demonstrate creativity and a passion for sharing mathematics.

  4. Exhibit a solid work ethic through prior experience.

  5. Be authorized to work in the U.S. for 14 months without visa sponsorship.

 

🎁 Compensation and Duration

- Total compensation: Approximately $52,000.

  • $47,000 paid during the program.

  • $5,000 completion bonus.


- Program dates: July 11, 2025 – July 25, 2026.

- Location: New York City (fellows are responsible for their own accommodations).

 

📝 Application Process

Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis and may close before the May 15, 2025 deadline if positions are filled. To apply:

  • A cover letter detailing your qualifications.

  • A current résumé, including GPA.

  • A one-page statement on your views or experiences related to mathematics.

  • Three letters of reference:

- Two from college math professors.

- One from your most recent manager or supervisor.

(References should be sent directly by the recommenders to (exponent@momath.org)


Selected candidates will undergo interviews, with a subset invited to provide additional information in a second round.
