The Department of Biology within the faculty of science at Utrecht University is seeking a PhD candidate to fill a vacant position titled "PhD position in Molecular control of growth-immunity trade-offs in Arabidopsis".
Project Description:
This PhD project, which is part of the CropXR research initiative, is focused on understanding the mechanisms by which plants regulate growth during and subsequent to immune responses. The research methodology will integrate digital phenotyping, genetic mapping, gene editing using CRISPR-Cas, and quantitative proteomics. The project will be executed in three stages: extensive phenotyping, validation of genetics, and a chronological study of proteomics and RNAseq. The doctoral student will work in collaboration with researchers from various universities and corporations, oversee students, and participate in teaching. The role provides a four-year contract with an attractive salary and benefits package.
Salary Details:
a position for 4 years;
a gross monthly salary between €2,770 and €3,539 in the case of full-time employment (salary scale P under the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities (CAO NU);
8% holiday pay and 8.3% year-end bonus;
a pension scheme, partially paid parental leave and flexible terms of employment based on the CAO NU.
Eligibility and personal Qualifications:
MSc degree in molecular and/or computational biology (completed or near completion).
Affinity for experimental plant biology research.
Demonstrated skills in computational and/or molecular biology research.
Eagerness to learn and deploy new research methods.
