Scholarship Overview

The Southwest Airlines Community Scholarship is designed to support students who are dedicated to pursuing higher education with a focus on careers within the airline industry. Southwest Airlines believes that educated communities are empowered communities and is committed to providing opportunities for students to achieve their educational dreams.


Each year, ten scholarships are awarded, each providing up to $5,000 annually, renewable for up to four years, culminating in a total potential award of $20,000. This financial support can be utilized to cover tuition fees, educational materials, and other related expenses, thereby alleviating the financial burden associated with higher education.


 

Scholarship Value and Benefits

  1. Financial Support: Recipients receive up to $5,000 per year, renewable for up to four years, totaling a maximum of $20,000.

  2. Flexibility: The four annual awards may be received over a period of up to five years, allowing for a deferment if needed.

 

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  1. Career Interest: Demonstrated interest in the airline industry, including but not limited to frontline operations, customer service, aircraft maintenance, dispatch, engineering, flight operations, finance, technology, human resources, marketing, sales, or communications.

  2. Educational Status: Graduating high school senior, previous high school graduate (with a diploma or equivalent), or current college student.

  3. Age: 24 years old or younger at the time of application submission.

  4. Academic Enrollment: Planning to attend an accredited vocational school, community/junior college or undergraduate institution in the United States, pursuing their first post-secondary degree or certificate for the upcoming academic year.

  5. GPA Requirement: Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale (unweighted).

  6. Community Service: Demonstrated history of community service.

  7. Renewal Criteria: Recipients must maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5 and be enrolled in at least 12 credit hours per semester to qualify for subsequent annual awards.

  8. Exclusions: Applicants may not be current Southwest Airlines Employees, dependents of current Southwest Airlines Employees, or company officers.
