TDR Postgraduate Scholarship in Implementation Research 2025–2026 at University of Ghana

If you are a researcher from an English-speaking country in the WHO African region and interested in pursuing a Master’s degree focused on Implementation Research (IR), applications are now open for the TDR Postgraduate Scholarship at the University of Ghana’s School of Public Health for the 2025–2026 academic year. The programme aims to build capacity in IR to address major global health challenges, including infectious diseases of poverty.

TDR Scholarship Overview

The TDR Postgraduate Scholarship in Implementation Research is funded by the UNICEF/UNDP/World Bank/WHO Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases (TDR). The programme focuses on strengthening research capacity in Implementation Research (IR), particularly in addressing:

  • Epidemics and outbreaks

  • Control and elimination of diseases of poverty

  • Climate change’s impact on health

  • Antimicrobial resistance


The scholarship supports students in developing research skills that help identify and overcome health system barriers, ensuring that interventions reach the most vulnerable populations. The programme is designed for professionals working in academic institutions, research organizations, or public health ministries. Scholarship recipients will be expected to complete a dissertation focused on IR related to infectious diseases of poverty.


The scholarship recipients will have the opportunity to join the global prestigious alumni platform IR connect, which would monitor the impact of the training programme on their career and allow them to network with other alumni for further career opportunities.

 

Tdr Scholarship Benefits And Coverage

  1. Round-trip economy airfare between the home country and Accra, Ghana

  2. Full tuition and academic fees

  3. Basic medical and accident insurance

  4. Monthly stipend for living expenses

  5. Research support for the dissertation project

 

TDR Scholarship Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  1. Be a national and resident of an English-speaking WHO African region country

  2. Be 37 years old or younger

  3. Meet the University of Ghana’s admission requirements for graduate studies

  4. Be proficient in English

  5. Be employed by an academic or research institution, non-profit organization, or ministry of health in an LMIC in the WHO African region

  6. Identify a local supervisor or mentor before the programme starts

  7. Have computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and data analysis software


ℹ️ The selection process will consider merit, gender balance, and geographic representation.

 

Application Procedure

1. Apply to the University of Ghana

  • Visit the University of Ghana admissions website and select either "Ghanaian Applicant" or "International Applicant."

  • Create an account, log in, and complete the application process.

  • Choose either the Master of Public Health (Social and Behavioral Sciences) or the MSc in Applied Health Social Science.


2. Apply for the TDR Scholarship

  • After completing the University of Ghana application, log in here using your application serial number and pin.

  • Fill out the TDR Postgraduate Scholarship application form.

  • Upload all required documents.


3. Required Documents

  • Completed application form

  • Copy of bachelor’s degree certificate

  • Academic transcripts

  • Proof of English proficiency

  • CV or resume

  • Statement of purpose detailing research interests in IR

  • Recommendation letters from academic or professional referees

  • Confirmation of employment (if applicable)

  • Identification documents (passport or national ID)


Application Timeline

  • Call for applications: February 21, 2025

  • Scholarship Application deadline: May 4, 2025

  • University of Ghana application deadline: June 15, 2025

  • Notification & pre-selection: July 15, 2025

  • Final selection confirmation: July 30, 2025

  • Programme start date: September 2025


Selection and Offer Acceptance

Shortlisted candidates will be contacted for an aptitude test and interview. Successful applicants will receive an offer letter and must confirm acceptance within seven days. The University of Ghana reserves the right to cancel an offer if any false information is detected.
