Fellowship Overview
The Human-Nature Fellowship, part of the British Council’s 3-year Human-Nature program in Malaysia, delves into the intersection of art, ecology, and community engagement. The 2025 fellowship, themed "Time of the Rivers", focuses on the ecological and social impacts of major dam projects in Borneo and the UK, emphasizing displaced communities and environmental reparations. Fellows will explore artistic strategies that reconnect humanity with river ecologies and challenge extractive economic dynamics.
Programme Components
Online Mentoring Session (March/April): to deepen decolonial approaches to art and ecology.
Field Visits (June/August): two immersive 2-week field visits in Borneo and the UK.
Online Showcase (September): present research findings and proposals for new works that will emerge through the 6-month programme.
Fellowship Coverage
The fellowship covers:
Travel: Full coverage for field visits and Travel between Malaysia and the UK for two immersive, two-week field visits
Stipend: £100/day for 34 days of full-time participation
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible, applicants must:
Be Malaysian or UK citizens (residents abroad are also eligible).
Be practicing artists in any discipline (e.g., visual arts, performing arts, literature).
Demonstrate a sustained engagement with the themes of the fellowship.
Plan to fully participate in all program activities, including physical fieldwork.
