The German non-profit organization International Journalists’ Programmes (IJP) proudly announces the 31st George Weidenfeld Fellowship for journalists from the UK and Germany. George Weidenfeld Fellowship Overview
As a full-fledged exchange initiative, the IJP George Weidenfeld Fellowship allows British and German journalists to work in each other’s newsrooms, fostering deeper understanding and collaboration. Participants will gain hands-on experience while contributing to their home organizations with insights from their host countries. The exchange is scheduled to take place throughout 2025.
Purpose and Goals
The IJP is dedicated to fostering global journalistic exchanges, connecting Germany with over 40 countries, including the United States, Northern Europe, Latin America, East Asia, Southern Africa, and the Middle East.
The program aims to:
Offer participants a correspondent’s perspective of the host country.
Facilitate professional networking within the journalistic field.
Provide a deeper understanding of the host country’s political, economic, and social dynamics.
Promote personal and professional growth through immersion in a new journalistic environment.
Program Structure and Benefits
Introductory Conference: The program begins with a three-day conference in October, where participants meet fellow bursary recipients and prepare for their exchange.
Placement at Host Organizations: Fellows are matched with host media outlets in the UK or Germany based on their interests, qualifications, and preferences.
Final Meeting and Report Submission: Participants reconvene in December to share experiences. A three-page report summarizing their contributions during the exchange is required.
Benefits
Stipend: Each fellow receives €3,800 to cover travel, accommodation, and personal expenses. Additional costs must be borne by the participant. Work compensation from host organizations is not guaranteed.
Networking Opportunities: After the program, participants can connect through the IJP alumni network, fostering long-term professional relationships.
Eligibility Criteria
Open to UK journalists aged 18–40.
Applicants can work in print, radio, or TV media.
No formal German language requirement; those with limited or no German language skills are encouraged to apply.

Four publication samples (TV and radio journalists should submit a list of contributions).
