The Queen's Commonwealth Essay Competition (QCEC) 2025, organized by the Royal Commonwealth Society (RCS), is now open for submissions. Celebrating its 75th anniversary, the Commonwealth invites young writers to explore the theme "Our Commonwealth Journey," reflecting on the significance of journeys within the Commonwealth context—be they geographical, historical, or personal.
Theme: Our Commonwealth Journey
Journeys are integral to personal growth and collective progress. The Commonwealth's evolution since its inception in 1949, now encompassing 56 member countries, exemplifies a shared journey of unity and diversity. This year's competition encourages participants to delve into the journeys that have shaped the Commonwealth and to reflect on their own experiences within this global community.
Categories and Topics
The competition is divided into two categories:
1. Senior Category (Ages 14-18):
Topics include envisioning equal access to education across the Commonwealth, reimagining national folklore, discussing the transformative power of literature, and narrating the life journey of a community plant.
2. Junior Category (Under 14):
Topics encompass learning about different Commonwealth countries, describing a sea voyage to a small island nation, imagining adventures through a secret door into a favorite book, and depicting an animal Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM).
Eligibility and Submission
The competition is open to nationals or residents of all Commonwealth countries and territories, as well as residents of Hong Kong, Ireland, and Zimbabwe. Entries must be written in English and submitted by 23 May 2025.
