The UTokyo Amgen Scholars Program 2025 at the University of Tokyo offers an exciting opportunity for undergraduate students in Asia to engage in a fully funded summer research experience of 8 weeks in fields related to biomedical and biotechnology sciences. Designed to foster the next generation of researchers, the program provides hands-on lab experience, guided by leading faculty, in a world-class research setting.
Program Overview
• Duration: The program runs for 8 weeks, from June 4, 2024, to August 3, 2024.
• Location: The University of Tokyo, Japan.
• Eligibility: Open to undergraduate students from colleges and universities across the Asia region. Applications are limited to students from eligible countries (check them here).
• Application Period: November 1, 2024 - February 1, 2025 JST (Japan Standard Time)
Program Features and Coverage
Research Opportunities: Participants engage in scientific research projects at the University of Tokyo's Graduate School of Medicine, Graduate School of Engineering, Graduate School of Science, Graduate School of Agricultural and Life Sciences, Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, and Institute of Industrial Science.
Accommodation: Provided near the Hongo Campus. Some labs may require commuting by train.
Stipend: A stipend of 270,000 JPY is provided, which can be used for food and personal trips.
Travel Costs: Economy-class airfare to Tokyo or round-trip train tickets for domestic students are covered.
Health and Travel Insurance: students must arrange their own private health and travel insurance.

Eligibility Criteria
Must be enrolled in undergraduate studies at a college or university in the Asia region.
Must have completed at least one year of undergraduate study before participating in the program
Must not be graduating before the program starts.
Have a good working knowledge of English, demonstrated by a minimum TOEFL (iBT) score of 72, IELTS overall band score of 5.5 (English as Medium of instruction certificate is also accepted)
Have an interest in pursuing a Ph.D.
