You and Europe Programme Description

Starting from the 2025/26 academic year, the European Scholarship Programme - You and Europe will grant 13 to 14 scholarships annually, ensuring about 27 students are studying in Germany at any given time. Open to citizens from Europe's 46 countries, including non-EU states, this program selects one student per cohort per country. Funding is for the standard two-year master's degree duration. The program promotes academic and cultural diversity by encouraging students to address pan-European issues through network meetings and events, fostering a collaborative space to shape Europe's future and cohesion.

 

Cohort 2025-2027 Eligible Countries

For the next round (start of the Master’s programme in fall 2025), the programme will be open to students from the following countries:

(Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, France, Georgia, Israel, Italy, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Switzerland, Spain, Turkey.)

 

You and Europe Scholarship Benefits

• Monthly Scholarship: EUR 300 to EUR 1,112, plus additional benefits (health insurance, family allowance).


• Network Meetings: Two annual meetings on European subjects, with costs covered (accommodation, meals, programme fees) and travel expenses subsidized.


• Educational Programs: Participation in Europe-specific programs (e.g., Europe Academy, EU simulation game) with costs covered and travel subsidized.


• Digital Platform: Access to a digital exchange and networking platform in the Studienstiftung Forum.


• Peer Programme: On-site guidance and support from a Studienstiftung scholar.


• General Sponsorship: Admission to the Studienstiftung’s scholarship programme for students from EU and EU accession countries.

 

You and Europe Eligibility Criteria

  1. Eligible Nationality: For current intake, students must be citizens of the eligible countries mentioned above (more countries will follow in future years).

  2. Master’s Program: For students intending to pursue a three- to four-semester master’s degree in Germany (including binational programs).

  3. Proof of Admission: Not required at the time of application but must be submitted by the start of the funding period.

  4. Field of Study: Open to students from all disciplines (except certain visual and performing arts programs).

  5. Academic Performance: Applicants must have above-average results in previous studies (top 10-15% performers).

  6. Interest in European Issues: Strong interest in European matters is required.

  7. Language Proficiency: Fluent in English (German is not a prerequisite).

  8. Nomination: Applicants must be nominated by a faculty member or academic advisor from their home university. This nomination should highlight the candidate's academic achievements, commitment to European issues, and potential for success in the program.


⚠️ Ineligibility: Students who completed their higher education entrance qualification or bachelor’s degree in Germany.

 

Application and nomination procedure

  1. Nomination: University lecturers nominate candidates using the provided online form on this webpage.

  2. Recommendation: Nominated candidates' lecturers submit a letter of recommendation.

  3. Invitation: Toepfer Stiftung invites nominated candidates to apply via an emailed application link.

  4. Application: Candidates submit their scholarship application via the emailed application link.


🧑🏻‍🎓Selection Process

  • Preselection: Jury reviews documents and selects candidates for the main selection.

  • Main Selection: Finalists present themselves and their studies in online interviews conducted mainly in English.
